Marc Benioff on What Companies Should Be Focusing On
The quote above is a good one, but I prefer what he said in the video.
He was asked what the big trend was going to be for tech companies, and he said something like the following:
Some companies are focused on their boards. Some companies are focused on their stockholders. Some companies are focused on their employees. But the successful ones are focused on their customers, and that’s where everyone is going to be headed soon. If you’re not doing that well you’re going to suffer.
I think this is a keen insight.
It’s almost as if customer satisfaction is the product. Or at least it’s the thing you need to watch the closest. Everything else comes from that.
It’s true that you need a good (actual) product before you can have customers, but if you’re neglecting the customer after you make something (even if it’s great), you’re might lose to someone who makes a product that’s 20% worse but cares for the customer well.
