With Technology, Remember What Matters

September 16, 2014

It’s the time of year for me to get religious about my technology platforms. Mobile operating systems, web stacks, whatever. When the iPhone comes out I think a lot about consolidation, optimization, and talking about those things with much zeal.

And that’s fine, but it’s important to keep it at the scale it deserves.

Just remember that it doesn’t matter what you use—only what you do.

We should all respect infinitely more the guy who uses the latest Blackberry and blogs on Geocities if he produces more good content than the guy who has nothing to say or offer but has the latest iPhone and blog stack.

Let this be a time to ask not what you build things with, but instead what you build.

supporting = loving

Since 1999 I've been creating ad-free technical tutorials and essays here. It's a one-person effort that's also my life and livelihood. If it makes your day more livable in any way, please consider supporting the work with a monthly or one-time donation. Your support means a lot to me, and makes all the difference. 🫶🏼
