We can never complain on the popularity of DerbyCon reaching new heights each year. This year we sold out in 10 hours – amazing and outstanding. That means that what we’re doing from a conference perspective continues to grow in word and in what we do year after year. That does pose a slight problem for folks that want to actually come to the conference and can’t.
One thing we will be doing new this year is streaming every single track live. You’ll be able to access them both from the hotel TV system as well as streaming live on the Internet. If you can’t make DerbyCon – at least you can experience it remotely. We also want to create an additional stream that anyone can go walk through and say hi to anyone watching on the Internet.

This is a fascinating development. They’re going to stream all tracks live, to the entire Internet, completely free.
I love this for two main reasons:
- It shows how much they care about the community above the profit
- It will put massive pressure on other conferences to do the same
DerbyCon continues to demonstrate that it’s the premier infosec conference. Not because it has the most attendees, or is the most popular, but because it best embodies the positive values of the infosec community.
Now if we could just have the world’s top universities do this.
The concept of highly paid professors giving private lessons to the privileged, when they could easily stream lectures to the entire world virtually for free, is becoming increasingly repugnant.
DerbyCon lead the way.
