I find the simplicity and interconnectibility(sp) of UNIX to be one of the most pleasing and functional things in the world.
The concept of linking together the input and output of a large number of dedicated and small pieces of functionality is simply beautiful.
I often look for ways to design solutions that have this characteristic.
