Evidently, so-called “thin content” is a thing, and it’s bad for websites.
It’s basically where you link to something, maybe with a quote, and you add some commentary to it.
Google supposedly hates this, since you’re not providing enough value, not contributing to the conversation, not creating the best possible resource for that topic. Etc.
Well, fuck that.
My website is not a business. It’s an avatar. It’s a place to think. It’s a place to talk to people. It’s a place…well, for a lot of things.
One of those things is sharing with others what I find interesting. Art, comedy, technology, quotes, laughs, tears, whatever.
It might be serious, and I might write a lot about it after linking to it, or it might be stupid as hell, and I might just pass on the link.
If Google is going to penalize me for doing this then I think I’ll take the hit. I’m not going to stop sharing interesting things (and linking to them) because I don’t have the time to write the Internet’s best resource about that topic.
I think I’ll just be myself and hope Google’s algorithm eventually learns to like me.
