If you’re being transitioned over from Lync to Skype for Business, you might notice a strange behavior:
You appear to be running Skype, but it looks exactly like Lync.
Well, there’s a reason for it. Your administrators have the ability to force you, through policy, to use the Lync UI even though you’re running Skype for Business.
But there’s a hack, if you want to run the Skype GUI.
Making the change
First, make sure Lync is closed. Navigate to the following registry key, by running
- Find the elusive
EnableSkypeUIkey, which will show all zeros
- Change the last number in the key to a 1 (or a 01)
This sets the value of
EnableSkypeUI to True, so the next time you launch Skype/Lync, it’ll look like Skype.
- This setting will stay as long as you have the application open, but if policy forces it back the next time you start the app you’ll have to go through the process again.
