I have an issue with competition that I need to address. I am basically bad at finding and exploiting weaknesses in my opponents. This is true of any game I play, but I’m noticing it quite a bit in Table Tennis.
The reason is simple enough. I am there working on my own mastery and my own flaws, and I’m simply using the opponent as an opportunity to do so. I’m not looking for their flaws. I’m not looking for how to beat them. I’m looking for how to improve my game, and will often pit my weaknesses against their strengths precisely so that I can do this.
I need to be able to switch out of this mode and look for opponents’ flaws for the purpose of winning at times. Not usually, because I like my approach in most cases. But sometimes.
