One unintended consequence of ad-blockers is that they will force content creators to adjust what they produce to suit those who don’t block ads.
- You have good content on a site
- The more sophisticated readers block ads
- The less sophisticated see the ads
- The publisher adjusts their content for what has the best ad performance (which isn’t good content)
- Now the site sucks
Advertising is hopelessly broken right now. I think something like Flattr is going to end up being the solution, but more unified into one’s identity.
Micropayments tied to delight and automatically distributed in a way that doesn’t bother the user.
