I’m a believer that everyone is multiple people.
There are good and bad versions of ourselves, and at various times they are in control.
Sometimes he can be such an asshole!
Yeah, well, sometimes he’s simply in that mode where he sees the world that way. It’s a thing. It’s something we all have.
I saw a good Trump tonight, for the first time. Just a glimmer.
It was with an interviewer right after he walked off the stage. He was babbling on about this or that, as he normally does, and then he went on with why he entered the race.
He said something like this (not an exact quote):
And we can win. We can. I can make it happen. And then we’ll be happy, and free, and we’ll have victories. And it’ll be the best America you’ve ever seen.
And he wasn’t lying. He wasn’t faking. He was dead serious.
So we know Trump is obsessed with winning. We know he’s rude to people. We know he’s pompous. We know he’s careless with the truth. We know all the bad things.
These are all Trumps that are out there, and that are likely to occupy his body at any moment.
But there’s another Trump out there who seriously wants to make America better. A Trump who is actually doing this so that he can fix things.
That makes me happy, especially given the rest of the GOP field, which, frankly, just frightens me.
So I suppose there are worse things than Trump.
Trump is extremely clueless about what is waiting for the next president, but I’ll take smart, clueless, and naive about his positive vision any day over someone like Cruz or Huckabee or Rubio.
They are not confused. They are not naive.
They know exactly what they want to do, and it’s terrifying.
So if we absolutely had to have a GOP person in there, maybe it’d be best if it were Trump.
At least he could (maybe) wake up after he got there and rise to the occasion using some compassion-based, secular decision-making that wouldn’t lead us into a world war.
- To be very clear, the guy would still make a horrible president. Notice that he didn’t even understand the trinity question, and doesn’t know what the Internet is or how it works. The point is that he might not be worse than the other GOP candidates, and in fact could be better. The other guys are just plain scary.
