Clinton didn’t just make “a lot of money” when he left the White House. Together, the Clintons pulled in $111 million from 2000 to 2007 — far more than what most people would consider a lot.
I am truly sorry that Al Jazeera English is giving up. It’s sad that their excellent reporting is not appreciated by most.
I hope that the Vice’s network is able to bring quality content to the world in a way that Al Jazeera was not, and can make the transition to mainstream.
This piece, which I hope isn’t as bad as it sounds, seems to be saying that the Clintons basically sold out America.
The way I read it is that they’re completely in bed with the major powers. They speak for them. They advocate their positions. They do what their lobbyists want.
And they get paid massively for it. 111 million in 7 years.
This really bothers me.
I’ve always seen the Clintons as mostly good. Most importantly, as people who truly care about the things they claim to care about.
Not flawless. Of course not. And that’s ok. Few people at that level are flawless. Bernie is a freak of nature to be as pure as he is.
But what it makes me wonder about is what Obama will do when he leaves. Will he do talks for the big banks and such as well? Will he make fortunes off of lobbyist causes as the Clintons appear to have done?
Or will he go more activist? More like Bernie, but with an Obama foundation to affect major change?
I think he’ll do more the latter. But after seeing how they Clintons appear to be, I’m forced to wonder.
I’m thankful for this sort of transparency. For the ability to gather and report on this type of activity in our representatives. And I’d like to see it increase.
They should know that they are public servants, and that when you are a servant you make sacrifices. One of those sacrifices is having your activities scrutinized for immorality.
This type of scrutiny won’t just expose the rotten types; it’ll also keep good people from becoming rotten through the stink of power and influence.
I’d welcome it.
