When it comes time to get your site’s page load times down it’s good to have some go-to resources on hand instead of Googling each time. Here’s my short list of three web-based tools.:
1. Web Sniffer
This site lets you pull a site using HTTP/1.0 or HTTP/1.1, offers GET, POST, HEAD, or TRACE methods, as well as giving you the option to pull gzipped.
The coolest function, however, is being able to do this while impersonating roughly a dozen browsers.
2. Pingdom’s Full Page Test
This free offering from Pingdom lets you see what takes the most time to load on your site–kind of like the major plugins do, but via website.
This tool gives a stellar printout of green, yellow, and red color-coded results for how well your site is doing in a number of optimization areas. These include total sizes of HTML, images, CSS, and scripts, as well as the number of objects.
