New York Senator Alfonse D’Amato Could Turn Tide in Online Poker Fight

Advocates for the legalization of online poker have a strong ally from the same hallowed Congressional halls where their legalization fight now rages. Former New York Senator Alfonse “Gus” D’Amato has experience on both side of the struggle, combining his former position in the US Senate with his current position as Chairman of the Poker Players Alliance to create an important voice for those who hope to pass an online poker bill.
The home-spun D’Amato succinctly states the case for legal online poker as he says, “Why is it OK for a group of friends to sit around the kitchen table and play a friendly game of poker, but not OK for people to play over their computers?” Gus is no stranger to the game; he is an avid poker player who used to organize weekly poker games in the Senate and held informal games as senators waited for bills to come to the floor.
