It would be ridiculous for an ISP to block the entire whitehouse.gov domain on court order because a single user posted a link. It is difficult for any web administrator to know which links to copyrighted material are done with permission. This will kill the free flow of information and conversation on the internet.

I love physical books as much as anyone. And when I really want to get a book into my brain, I now purchase both the hardcover and electronic editions. From the point of view of the publishing industry, I am the perfect customer. This also makes me a very important canary in the coal mine—and I’m here to report that I’ve begun to feel woozy. For instance, I’ve started to think that most books are too long, and I now hesitate before buying the next big one. When shopping for books, I’ve suddenly become acutely sensitive to the opportunity costs of reading any one of them. If your book is 600 pages long, you are demanding more of my time than I feel free to give. And if I could accomplish the same change in my view of the world by reading a 60-page version of your argument, why didn’t you just publish a book this length instead?
Read the whole piece. This is the best articulation of the issue that I’ve ever seen.
On 8 June, 2011, Google, Facebook, Yahoo!, Akamai and Limelight Networks will be amongst some of the major organisations that will offer their content over IPv6 for a 24-hour “test flight”. The goal of the Test Flight Day is to motivate organizations across the industry – Internet service providers, hardware makers, operating system vendors and web companies – to prepare their services for IPv6 to ensure a successful transition as IPv4 addresses run out.
Please join us for this test drive and help accelerate the momentum of IPv6 deployment.

Today is a big day for the Internet.
The cell phone is by far — and across all generations — the most popular technology device in America. Fully 85% of adults own a cell phone. By comparison, 59% of adults own a desktop computer, 52% own a laptop computer, 57% own an iPod or mp3 player and 5% own an e-book reader. Almost all adults ages 65 and younger own a cell phone, as do two-thirds (68%) of adults ages 66 to 74 and nearly half (48%) of adults ages 75 and older. Still, adults younger than age 34 — the Millennial generation — continue to be on the cutting edge of this technology. Most cell phone owners use only two of the main non-voice functions on their phones: taking pictures and text messaging. Among Millennials, meanwhile, a majority also use their phones for going online, sending email, playing games, listening to music and recording videos.
It’s strange to think that the Internet will soon mean “mobile” Internet. Using the web at home or at work will be the exception.
In a blog post today, Facebook app developer Tal Ater claims to have stumbled upon a Javascript object on the Facebook website called VideoChat with a number of properties that specifically mention Skype.
Facebook was previously reported to be testing a video chat feature back in May 2009, when similar code (not featuring mentions of Skype) was found. At the time Facebook said it had no plans to release the feature to users.
That’d just about be gg I think.
But that is not all, we took the time to improve a few things as well:
- No more invites, anyone can join!
- New design, some changes to freshen up the site in general.
- Facebook Integration, publish your new things and what you flattr to your facebook feed.
- Facebook Application, you can now show your Flattr things on your Facebook profile.
- Twitter integration, publish your new things and what you flattr to your Twitter feed.
- Better user experience, improved sign-up process and dashboard.
- New JavaScript API, complete revamp.
Definitely consider getting involved with Flattr. I made more in one month off of Flattr than I usually do off of like 4 months of Google Ads (especially since I removed most of my ads).
And the money feels better too, since it’s not from junking up your content but rather comes from appreciation donations.

Here’s a list of some major PC software products. Do you know what they all have in common?Photoshop
Word
Myst
Excel
FileMaker
PostScript
PowerPoint
IllustratorThe answer: They were first successful on Apple systems, and only later took off in the PC world.
I was working at Apple when this process happened, and I can tell you that it was searing. Apple had invested countless hours and dollars marketing those products as prominent reasons to buy Macs, and then we saw that investment turned against us when the apps were made available on Windows.
Do you think Steve Jobs has forgotten that experience?
