There is also (as you know) a school of thought that says that happiness depends less on your state of being than on your perception of the CHANGE in your state of being.  That is .. if your life seems to be IMPROVING, then you will tend to be happy.  If it seems to be DECLINING, then you will tend to be unhappy.&lt;/p&gt;
