What’s the Best Home Entertainment Setup for an OS X-Based Household?

I just purchased my first television in around ten years, and I haven’t had one plugged in and functional for the last three. I’m just not into TV that much.
But I do enjoy a few shows that my girl has got me into, such as True Blood and Dexter. And I enjoy Big Bang Theory when I do see it. Basically I just wanted the option to watch content on a full display.
With that in mind we picked up a Samsung 46″ LCD the other day, and we have it connected into a Comcast premium package with the high-speeder PVR and all that goodness. I have the 50Mbit Internet, so why not get some cable, yeah?
Anyway, my problem is that I have no intention of ever watching TV at the point that a show airs. That’s just lame to me. My other problem is that there is much more content, in iTunes and in general file formats such as DiVX and such, that won’t be coming from Comcast. I need to be able to watch that content as well. I need a solution that allows me to get all of this to my TV in an elegant fashion.
Requirements
- PVR Content from Comcast
- My iTunes content such as TV shows, movies, and podcasts
- My downloaded Internet content (stuff that I currently play with VLC)
I am looking for an elegant solution to this, i.e. preferably something that doesn’t involve building a new computer and putting MythTV on it.
Potential Solutions
- A Boxee box (did that ever happen?)
- A Mac Mini set-top box that can run Boxee and Hulu Plus, etc.
- A new Apple TV
- A full, custom system like MythTV
What are you guys doing for this? What am I missing? Any thoughts welcome.
[ Oh, I also have a BlueRay player that does Netflix streaming as well. Meh. The streaming library is quite sad. If everything isn't there then it might as well be nothing. ]
