To put it another way, this Shangri-La system should be used as a tool to help one do the right thing — not be considered the right thing itself.

I think that is an important observation.

I'll note I started at just a bit over 240 and I'm now at around 174. It has worked very well for me.

If you try the oil in water and taking the oil at night trick it might help with the problems you are having.

Hey,
Did you try the extra light olive oil (ELOO)? Or canola oil? I don't use sugar water because I have hypolgycemia (via a Glucose Tolerance Test). I found the ELOO works well. And it sure beats trying to count calories, etc.

An old trick i picked up when i was training was to squeeze some lemon juice into water. Doesnt take much. I was easily drinking 3-4 litres a day, when normally i couldnt stand the stuff.

Re: your update. No need to make it a full liter. Just a small glass with 2..3 tablespoons of sugar, can be gulped down in a few gulps.

Good Luck! Reading about diets such as South Beach have at least made me aware of what I am eating. Replacing carbs (like fries) with vegetables can make a big difference. Portion control can be the most difficult for those of us who have always eaten until we were stuffed.

Frozen dinners can get old quickly. I've been buying bags and bags of frozen vegetables. Eat as many veggies as you want! Hit the spice aisle at the grocery store to add various flavors. Olive oil = good.
