The Painfully Slow iTunes Music Store

Why is it that it consistently takes me like thirty (30) seconds to access Apple’s iTunes Music Store? A while back I was getting in like instantly, but now it’s like I’m loading the next level of a game from the 90s.

Perhaps it’s my machine; I am only running a dual-core 2.0 Ghz Intel with 2GB of memory. Or maybe my bandwidth? I’m admitedly limping along at around 8Mb/second.

What exactly is the problem here? I’m starting to get a bit pissed about it. I don’t see how I can be getting this sort of delay on top of the line hardware and sick bandwidth. Oh, and it does it all night long, too. It’s not just during peak hours.

Anyone have any ideas?

I think he just called itunes music shoppers "smug". Which is funny. But if my name were Daniel I would be ready to break some face. :)

I find that iTunes is way more resource hungry than it should be (at least on Windows). I got an iPod at work (iPods for education initiative thing). My computer here is a 1.8 Ghz machine with half a gig of RAM -- yet when I start up iTunes, it grinds to a halt for about 30 seconds. When I plug in my iPod, it takes a good 2 minutes of grinding and non-activity until the iPod is accessible through iTunes. At home it's a little better (I've got a 2.8 Ghz machine with about half a gig of RAM there), but there's still a good 30 second delay between the time I plug in my iPod and the time I can actually update it.

As an Apple shareholder, I'm hoping that peak hours run 24-7. :)
