Once Android comes to a few more carriers and hardware I think we'll see an uptick in app development. I think developers will like the ability to program for Android and it runs on all the different phones Android runs on, versus iPhone apps which will run only on the iPhone.
I believe the lack of robust apps is one of the major detractors for Android.
Canonical is also looking at getting Android apps to run on Ubuntu. If that pans out then writing for Android will also mean you also inherit many Linux customers, for what that's worth.
I don't get T-Mobile service at my house, and their coverage here in Tallahassee isn't very good. I also can't budget it quite yet, but probably over the next year I plan on having one of these.

Once a vector is established, the outcome becomes a certainty. Now it should be interesting to see what marketable responses iPhone comes up with, and how long they come up with them.

(I've been looking at the HTC with an eager interest lately.)
