Lies, damn lies, and statistics. Did you know that 100% of people who eat carrots DIE!?
More seriously, you can always solve a given problem if you are willing to accept an unlimited worsening of other problems. Yes, we could eliminate all medical bankruptcies in the US with the stroke of a pen. It's meaningless without examining the full-context effects that would have. People like Franken love this kind of static, linear thinking, isolate a problem to its most ruthlessly concrete context and solve it in isolation. Side-effects and unintended consequences be damned.

Assuming that Sen. Franken's statement is correct, one MUST ask if those countries have the legal mechanism for medical bankruptcy, or if the concept is translated as some other existing bankruptcy option.
It is inconceivable that in countries where we have documented cases of governments denying medical services to individuals, being unable to include ONE SINGLE CASE of medical bankruptcy in any official survey. The qualifiers for such inclusions or exclusions must restrict logic to a pointed purpose, if that were the case.

Senator Al Franken...speaking of France....do you know how many people's minor medical conditions were left untreated to the point at which they became serious illnesses because there isn't enough healthcare resources to handle the population? It wasn't zero.... Do you know how many French people who need advanced care travel to the US each year to get care that is completely unavailable to them in their public healthcare system? It wasn't zero... .....
