“Science flies you to the moon; Religion Flies you into buildings.”

What better way to take intelligent discussion of religion off the table than by making broad, offensive, and absolutely wrong statements. Tactics like this do nothing but ensure the two sides view each other with increasing contempt and an unwillingness to engage in meaningful dialogue.

That would be true if religion were not warping the minds of millions and giving them justification to literally hate and kill others. This is reality, and it's extremely dangerous to our survival as a species.

The message isn't to the religious; it's to moderates.

And keep in mind, this is out of Britain where new Mosques are popping up like dandelions, and where many of the surrounding communities are denying the secular laws and going with a Sharia-like system.

That's the context for this–and I agree that the message needs to be heard.

If everyone were like you, David, then I would never use such language. But everyone isn't like you. The religion you support is not the religion these other groups support. To them you're just a semi-spirtual western freak who needs to find God before it's too late.

    Keep that in mind.

    Hi there.

I'm not sure where you got this picture but I'm pretty sure it's Photoshopped. It looks like a UK Athiest Bus sign but when you go to their web site “http://www.atheistbus.org.uk/” there's no mention of this campaign.

Also, I live and work in London and I've never seen this on a bus.

    Ergo, punk'd…

I think that most people, the overwhelming majority, are like me. The fundamentalist sit in a minority. They are like the ten violent people in a protest with thousands of peaceful attendants. They make the rest of us look bad.
On the religious side, there is a strong belief that atheism is bad based on the actions or words of a small minority of atheists.
I think the South Park episdoe “Go God Go” had it mostly right. Even if we completely wipe religion off the face of the planet, we humans will still find reasons why we should kill each other. Group think and xenophobia are an inherent part of being part of a species that works in “packs.” We only have our unique capacity of high level logic and ability to reason to break out of that and work against destroying each other out of fear of the other pack.
