Recommending a Pat Buchanan Book

I’m currently halfway done with State of Emergency: The Third World Invasion and Conquest of America.

I am sure this recommendation may come as a shock to many, being the rather liberally slanted guy that I am. But this book is different from most of the ramblings that I’ve heard from Pat Buchanan before. It’s still a bit too focused on race and religion in parts (neither of which I can stomach), but 95% of the content (so far) is independent of those themes.
The majority of the book focuses instead on an idea that will sound very familiar to all of my friends (I rant about it constantly), which is the belief that this country is falling. Buchanan very effectively gathers information to illustrate this fact, and places the blame on squarely unfettered illegal immigration and the resulting lack of unity within our country. He is especially passionate about the fact that our government has failed to protect us from this problem, and goes into detail about how the GOP (formerly his GOP) has failed the country.
I found it very refreshing to see him breaking with the Republicans over and over, choosing to say what he felt needed to be said. I did cringe in a few places as he seemed to revert back to the Pat Buchanan that I’ve disliked over the years — especially when he talks about “white folks” or started quoting from the Bible.
Overall, however, I think the book is a must read for any intelligent person who cares about the future of the United States. Even if you dislike what Buchanan stands for in many areas, this book is filled with what I believe to be truth about the most important problem facing our country — the lack of nationalism. Without going too far into it (I’ll do that later via my own opinions) the basic idea is that you cannot have a successful nation, when it’s made up of little more than a collection of other nations.
That’s all I’m going to say about it for now, but I implore everyone to read this book. I purchased the audiobook from the iTunes music store (in conjunction with audible.com), and I read did the entire first half in the car last night. I’ll be finishing it this weekend or on the plane to New York.
So go get it, read it, and keep an open mind. Try and take in the overall concepts without being turned off by who’s conveying the information. I find this quite easy to do, and I am able to filter crap when I hear it. I’m sure you guys can do the same.
Also, drop me an email if you want to discuss it. I love discussing issues like this with intelligent people; I get to test my constantly changing theories and beliefs through direct discussion and debate, which is really the best way.
