Philosophy Without Facts

The following article makes the argument that certain problems, e.g. discovering the nature of matter, could benefit a lot more from purely philosophical attempts to advance our knowledge, and that a rejection of this method due to sole investment in theories that can be backed by hard science hurts us.
I find the argument compelling.
