My wife and I have agreed to not have kids. We know there is lots of good in the world, but each day, with the killings that continue in every country, we look at ourselves and don't like the world we see and where its heading. It's as if: someone, somewhere, has turned off the empathy emotion, in humans.

We both have degrees, we don't like our bosses at all, it is only about income for them. Even in non-work related conversations all of their comments come from the standpoint of how that will somehow affect they're income. On TV it's nothing but flash consumerism. No, no kids for us. I would end up apologizing for bringing them into a world that only cares about money.

Getting back to our problems in the US. I find everyday the stories of the US falling back into the depression from the headlines on the newspapers to the news reports on the net. I just don't get it why is our government targeting the financial groups with the so called bailouts? I do believe if our government started with the citizens of the US with their bailouts by dividing the $700 billon tax dollars between the families of the US then we all will gain from this. With the US Citizens being able to pay their late mortgage payments and paying their taxes up to date and paying off their debts then the economy will strengthen itself. Think about it why are the financial groups in need of a bailout? Its because the average US citizen can't pay their debts because we have no jobs left. The average citizen is using some type of credit to pay for debts already owed. If the citizens were bailed out the financial groups would regain their backbone and of course our government would get their fair share back. For example with the stimulous check ( if you were lucky enough to recieve one ) the average person either paid their property tax or paid toward their back mortgage payments. My point is why start at the top where only one group will gain when they can start at the bottom and everyone can gain.
OPEN YOUR EYES OUR ELECTED ONES WE'RE STILL HERE WHAT ABOUT US.

They should have just said they weren't voting for Obama because he's an over-ambitious politician with no record. Or they could say no because Oprah supports him and put him on the map to begin with.

@ncloud

I actually am one of those who's not having kids, at least not yet. But I don't find that hypocritical. The best way to fix the stupid people having stupid children problem is not to try and have two kids, and to tell your friends to do so as well. That's impractical at best. The best way is to get involved in politics, to get involved in the education system, and to try in any way possible to change incentive systems within our culture.

Adding a few smart kids on top of a country full of idiots will fix nothing. It won't even make a dent. The ONLY option is to try and stop the stupidity from spreading.

Use IQ tests certify if someone will be allowed to have children. Having children is the only thing that doesn't have any competency standards on a area that poor standards that has a huge negative effect on society at large.

Maybe less kids will get driven into lakes, or infants dropped in backyard septic systems, or cooked in microwaves by insane or strung out parents. If were lucky ir might actually eliminate the cable tv for parents style of parenting.

I have similar feelings, Dan. I believe what you describe is an American epidemic. What to do? Don't know, but it's something that the media should start talking more about. Probably Geraldo Rivera would be the only one with stones enough to tackle it ... :-)

I find it hypocritical that the people I know who consider themselves educated and cultured, and who rail against those "damn ignorant rednecks and their breeding habits" are also the same people who refuse to have children. I'm not saying this about you -- I don't know your position on having children -- but I know many people like this. Of course the country will be populated with unthinking idiots of smart people don't raise children.

If you haven't seen the great movie Idiocracy, I highly recommend it. It's a sad, but prophetic (and funny) view of our future. The movie's intro illustrates precisely what I'm talking about.
