My Problems With Google Reader I

So as mentioned in a previous post, I’m trying out Google’s newsreader. I’m impressed with some of the features I’m seeing, but at the same time disapointed with the lack of others. Here are a couple of gripes, shotgun style:
- When I strike
vto “view” a post in the browser, it opens a new tab and takes me away from my Google Reader session. In my current (old?) reader those tabs were opened in the background so that I could use my GTD approach to news reading. - The web-based nature of the application gives me a less solid feel than my native client. I sometimes get lag and hiccups that I didn’t get before.
- While I normally use
jandkto navigate, when I want to usenandp(next and previous), the timing seems to be backwards. In other words, if the entries are sorted in the default fashion (newest on top), clicking “next” should take me forward in time, i.e. up the page, not down. - There’s far too much ambiguity when it comes to Google’s tagging nomenclature. They literally have three different names at this point: folders, tags, and labels. There are some subtle differences perhaps, but they need to decide on a naming strategy and explain how the different types of tags are used differently.
- I don’t quite get the concept of tagging individual posts. I’d like a simpler interface for tagging entire feeds, not the actual posts within them.
These are just a few that I’ve noticed thus far. I’m trying to like this app, but it’s going to take some getting used to and/or figuring out that I’m missing some options before I can actually make the switch.
