Yeah, vmware is pretty cool… I used to use it a lot when I was at Georgia Tech and I used a linux desktop. I could never get it the virtual windows desktop to recognize my video card properly so I could play 3D games, so i eventually dropped it. Maybe that was because I never actually bought it, I just kept renewing the evaluation.
