Even today my brain tried to parse this in such a way that the protesters were cartoons. ("Who Framed Roger Rabbit" came to mind.)</p> <hr /> <p>You know ... as insane as the response to the cartoons seems, and as much as I favor a completely free press, I can imagine SIMILAR (though we might hope less violent) outrage here if cartoons were created (and run in a major newspaper) with gratuitous use of swastikas or the "N" word (a symbol and a word that have been pretty well eliminated from "polite" conversation in the US).</p> It is getting absurd. You know … as insane as the response to the cartoons seems, and as much as I favor a completely free press, I can imagine SIMILAR (though we might hope less violent) outrage here if cartoons were created (and run in a major newspaper) with gratuitous use of swastikas or the “N” word (a symbol and a word that have been pretty well eliminated from “polite” conversation in the US).
