Is Twitter Just a Personal Branding Tool?

pdp of GNUCITIZEN writes in a recent blog that Twitter is nothing more than a personal branding tool. I sort of agree with him, but only if I don’t have to accept that this is much different than other public communication channel.
I think blogs are even more about personal branding than Twitter is. If anything, Twitter is just additional marketing for your particular brand. You go to Twitter to socialize and draw attention to certain topics, and then you point people to your blog for more thorough arguments.
So I wouldn’t say the blog is the real medium, and that Twitter is just noise; I’d say they supplement each other in much the same way that text messages supplement voice calls. One isn’t better than the other; they’re both sub-classes of the same thing, i.e. the desire to communicate in order to share ideas and project our identities. ::
