I.Q. Can Be Improved Significantly by Training Short-Term “Fluid” Memory

An interesting study has come out of the National Science Foundation (NSF) that found that fluid memory (a type of short-term memory) is key to I.Q., and that training this type of memory can significantly improve I.Q. scores.

This study by Jaeggi et al came out in PNAS in April. I found the study so compelling and exciting that I started a new company, consulted with Jaeggi, and developed a software program that applies the same method. I’ve personally found the training to be very impressive in some not so subtle ways. (I usually struggle with the NY Times Thursday crossword puzzle, but yesterday I completed it in about thirty minutes, for instance.)
