Initial iPhone 3G and Software 2.0 Experiences and Impressions

First of all, I mactard-zealot-camped at a local AT&T store (most spent in my car, though, not in my chair) from 8pm to 8am, and was first in line. Both I and my fiance were able to get the 3G phones (her 8GB, me 16GB), and we both got the black case.
We spent about 40 minutes buying both of our phones and watching AT&T fumble through it as if hours of training and preparation had not even taken place. Plus we ported my fiance’s number from Verizon as this is her first iPhone.
We had no problems with activation. Also, our entire 3G-enabled-city (2 corporate stores) sold out of iPhones in around 3 hours.
Overall we’re very happy with our devices — especially her since she’s coming from a non-qwerty Blackberry brick made in the 40’s.
Issues
We’re both having problem with randomly dropping down to EDGE right in middle of a full 3G area of our city. Often one of us will be 3G while the other is 2G, while we’re sitting right next to each other. Do not want.
MobileMe is currently a left-handed soup sandwich. It’s like Exchange 5.5 for the rest of us.
The 2.0 software overall seems a bit suspect. The features are great, but it’s just not all that stable. I’ve had at least two spontaneous reboots and numerous app crashes. I expect this to get fixed in a forthcoming update.
On the whole I’m very happy with the releases; I just wish they would have been more smooth.
