Google Latitude and the iPhone

So, yeah, I’m excited that Google has added location services for the iPhone on the main page, and released Google Latitude through google.com/latitude as well. But I’m a bit upset with Apple about them not accepting Google’s native Latitude app on the iPhone. They were specifically told that they didn’t want it to be confused with Apple’s native Maps application.
All I can say is I hope this is because they’re working on a more long-term integration project between the two. The integration between Google and Maps is already really strong, so I this seems entirely feasible. But if this doesn’t materialize within the next year or so, and Apple stays with AT&T, I’m going to be looking even harder at an Android device.
