Forget Work-life Balance: Let’s Talk About the Consume-Create Balance

I think the question of work-life balance fails to answer the important question, which is why it’s never answered properly.
To what end?
If you haven’t figured out what you want from life, and what makes you happy, then you can’t solve this by adjusting the amount of time you spend at work or at home. This is because neither your time at work or home will bring happiness until you’ve figured this out.
Creation is the Key
I personally am finding that the key to happiness is making things. I have a whole ecosystem of thought on this that’s currently very immature, but I think it’s fair to say that most people consume too much and create too little.
Consumption should be seen as nothing more than an input-gathering phase for the ultimate goal, which is creation. And as such, consumption that doesn’t lead to creation should be regarded with extreme suspicion–like the consumption of empty life calories. ::
