Does the current administration encourage or hinder this progression, or have no impact at all?

I think your projections are way off track. Corruption in Washington is at a very-very low point in our nation's history, even if confidence in our government is also at a low-point.
Churches are more liberal than they ever where (including the Catholic Church) and there are more types of churches than there ever was.
Freedom is at an all-time high, not only in America, but around the world. A black man holds the highest power in the world. Blacks and whites regularly date, marry, and reproduce without (much) stigmatism. A woman almost became a candidate for the highest office in the world (to only be thwarted by a black man.) We have international organizations effectively mitigating all sorts of crises, where as before brutal wars of ethnic cleansing where common place.
Death at the hand of another human is at an all time low in human history.
Science is discovering secrets of the universe that we can hardly mentally grasp.
Education, as good as it isn't, it also better than it ever has been in this country. We are better prepared to handle children of varying disabilities than ever before, and we are improving at a very fast rate. Research has taught us teaching methods that are highly effective compared to past practices.
I consider myself extremely lucky to live in the time and place that I do. I am eager to shed to past and eagerly look forward for the future.

Wow. It's interesting that we can see things so differently.

“Corruption in Washington is at a very-very low point in our nation's history,…”

Incredible. As in not credible. I do not believe this. I cannot believe this.

I don't have the time to search right now, but Lawrence Lessig lays it out pretty well in some of his speeches.

The fact of the matter is that the good old days never existed. Corruption and tyranny have always existed, at some points more so than others.
People fought and died for the labor, civil rights and women's movement which we today live to enjoy the fruits of. I would not want to return to the days when conditions where so poor that people had to fight and die over these basic human rights.

That's one of his talks where he talks about corruption.

    From 17:45 to 25:00

I think he lays out a pretty convincing argument that corruption in the past was much worse than today.

It's not today I'm worried about; it's tomorrow.

Yes, but you need to show that things where once better, are now worse, and there are relevant trends indicating that the situation will continue to deteriorate.
To the contrary, thing where worse, are better today, and there is every reason to believe that they will continue to improve.
That's not to say that we don't have our own unique challenges today, that if not properly handled could lead to disaster. Indeed, all past efforts at stability have eventually come to an end.
However, I love the age I was born in and I look forward to what the future has to offer.
