This is kind of silly. Why do you assume that people say that he has “sold-out”? Which, by the way, is not something i’ve ever heard a black person say. I think that phrase is much more insulting in middle class, predominately white, society. Grammar is inherently classist if you ask me. The only reason the version accepted as “correct” is accepted as such is because the rich people speak it. It’s changed over the years from the original British, but people don’t say it’s “incorrect.” If anything, he’s just admitting that he would prefer his students to make money in a white-dominated business world as opposed to preserve their black language heritage. Like an immigrant not speaking their native language to their children in order to help them adapt.

You’re in the dark regarding the predominant black culture, then. Within this world there is a tangible line between doing what “we” do and doing what “they” do. There are dozens of books written on this topic; I suggest you check into some of them. I particularly recommend Juan Williams’s “Enough”.

    Cheers,

Good Gracious, How does language define your character? I am sick and tired of African Americans making the way you speak our #1 priority. So I guess if “Jadon” could pronounce “ASK” instesd of “AXE” he wouldn’t be doing 5-10 years in the state pen. Teach our children about who delivered them out of bondage(GOD), then teach them about our ancestors. Teach our children to love and respect each other then, everything thing else will fall into place. This reminds me of the movie, ” Soldier Story ” Don’t say ” dis” say “this” don’t say “dat” say “that”. First it’s the color caste system, now it’s a language caste system.
