Apple Just Killed The iPhone

Let’s review, as of yesterday’s WWDC (and keep in mind that I’m actually getting an iPhone):
- No 3G
- No expandable memory
- No TeleNav or GPS **
- No Flash
- No Java
- No removable battery **
- No Instant Messaging client
- No MMS (SMSonly)
- No third party applications **
- $500-$600
Sure, the iPhone is still going to rock as a visionary phone, but the now-confirmed lack of Flash and an SDK just killed any chance of it being a revolutionary device as a whole. It might not even be a smartphone at this point; it’s more like a brilliant implementation of a regular phone, with some basic Internet features.
So yeah, I’m still getting one (the killer app for me is Address Book), but if they don’t change the Flash and/or SDK issue they are going to have to seriously lower prices if they want to sell more than 15 of these things. With the lack of features above they are going to have to come down to the $250 range to be viable.
Oh well, now I probably won’t have to worry about being able to get one on launch day, and we have Leopard to look forward to.:
