Apple Fans Should Consider MiFi

I am curious as to why so few gadget enthusiasts know about (or care about) MiFi technology. People talk endlessly about tethering, which is no-doubt great where it’s available, but Apple fans aren’t likely to see legitimate tethering any time soon.

MiFi is connectivity zen for those with many Apple devices (or any Internet device, really). Soon there will be a significant number of people with not only an iPhone and an Apple laptop, but also an iPad. Getting that laptop or iPad online in many places where you need it is a pain: airports, while driving, random places with no solid/free Wifi, etc.

MiFi is the answer here. It connects to the Internet via Verizon (which means it’s reliable most anywhere) and broadcasts a local Wifi network near you for up to five (5) devices. This means your iPhone, laptop, and iPad can all get online pretty much regardless of where you are. And it’s no hassle; it’s tiny, nearly weightless, and you connect once and save your wireless settings. From then on you just spin up your laptop or iPad and it’s online via wireless. It’s like an instant 3G data card for every device you’re carrying.

So what’s the downside? Cost. The plans are between $40 and $60 a month. But is this that big of a problem if you have an iPhone, an Apple laptop, and an iPad, and you live a lifestyle that focuses on technology and connectivity?

I think not. If you’re that focused on the digital lifestyle you should consider cutting back in another area of your finances. In exchange you’ll have full, instant access to the Internet on all your devices, from virtually anywhere. ::
