Well, at least Ken’s point is easy to answer. Perhaps they believe that media attention would only foul things up. Lots of people have ideas that are good for the world (or might be) and they don’t seek media attention until they have something READY to announce. Attention too soon and people might not get the full picture.

Disclaimer … I give essentially no credence to the rants of conspiracy theorists.

On the other hand, if this is real, it seems a bit strange that the media doesn’t appear to cover it at all. To answer your question, Daniel, I’d not have thought that ANYONE could intentionally create a media blackout. Indeed, I still don’t think it’s possible, but (of course) I may be wrong.

With only 6 corporate news and media companies in US it is quite easy to do. Also, it’s been done before, including US: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_blackout#Examples

Most of examples are related to emergency states, but some aren’t. Creating a media blackout to facilitate easier negotiations is quite a lame excuse. Don’t you guys think Bilderberg Group is having this same support on a national level, to make life easier for you in North America, or the world for that matter? :)

One more great example of current news blackout is Jacque Fresco. I did this mini-research on how, if at all, the man is being covered by major news agencies. I wrote about the findings on my personal blog in “Jacque Fresco and Media: A Great Man Ignored On Purpose?” post. Guess what? Basically, nothing. The man is a living genius to some extent, 95 today, has been around for decades, and yet only less than 5 articles can be found on his The Venus Project in the major news networks.

Check this mini-research out for yourself: http://ivanlezhnjovjr.wordpress.com/2010/11/06/jacque-fresco-and-media-a-great-man-ignored-on-purpose/

Might change your opinion, I guess.

I was thinking about why the Bilderberg Group prefers to keep the media out too, and I’ve come up with basically three options:

    • they’re conspiring for evil (could be the case) • they’re conspiring for good (doesn’t really make sense, because most of the groups that want to change the course of history for better are usually open about it, and try to get others involved as much as possible) • this is just a private club where people like privacy (and they’re not conspiring, maybe having orgies, or weird rituals, or playing poker, or having group therapies to eliminate stress built up as a result of being a public figure, etc. som)

The first two don’t really require any discussion. We’ll just have to know for sure if they do it for good, or for evil purporses. And then it will be easy to know what to do. This becomes self-evident.

The latter one… not that I seriously believe they have nothing better to do, but first of all:

    a) people tend to band together with people from their social networks and circles, socio-economic stratification plays a huge role here too b) being a public figure draws attention to such people, and also stress to perform well — not to slip your tongue, or do something what media will interpret against you — comes alongside with being that type of person. c) so what these people to do if they want to get together and get stupid? Media will not give them a break, we all know it, they too, even if they’re going to just play golf, people will follow them and fundamentally all these “top” people are just that, people. They have a right to privacy just like anyone else.

However, the problem here is that they’re not just playing golf in an open field, they convene in secrecy and that’s exactly what pisses people off.

I’m afraid unless we have enough understanding of the intent of this group we’re not in position to say what they’re doing.

Until then, I believe it’s worth too kep an eye on them and consider any input on the developments around and connected to the Bilderberg Group.
